The twelfth MingDe Forum brings alumni and guests together in New York and Montreal to look afresh — at the moment intelligence is accelerating into our lives — at the questions of world order, capital and humanity that have always deserved discussion. Notice of changes to the main-venue speakers and regional sessions of the MingDe Forum 2026 Annual Meeting

Dear guests, alumni and friends of the MingDe Forum,

Since preparations for the MingDe Forum 2026 Annual Meeting began, it has received wide attention and generous support from many quarters and from our sister university alumni associations. We extend our most sincere thanks to you all.

Owing to circumstances beyond our control, and after careful deliberation, the organising committee has decided on the following major changes to the speakers at the New York main venue and to the regional sessions:

1. Speakers and program at the New York main venue

1. MingDe Lecture speaker: Professor Liu Shouying (Distinguished Professor, National Grade I; former Dean of the School of Economics, Renmin University of China) will give the MingDe Lecture in place of Professor Zheng Xinye.

2. Keynote speaker: Associate Professor Li Chongxuan (Gaoling School of Artificial Intelligence, Renmin University of China) will deliver the keynote in place of Professor Chai Yunpeng.

A special note from the organising committee: although some speakers have changed for reasons beyond our control, we will spare no effort to keep the talks at the same depth and academic standard — the same first-rate, forward-looking thinking.

2. Regional sessions

1. Vancouver session: The Vancouver regional session is cancelled. We sincerely apologise to everyone who has been following it, and ask for your understanding.

2. Montreal session: The Montreal regional session is unchanged and will take place as planned and on schedule.

We apologise for any inconvenience these changes may cause. The whole organising committee is working at full stretch on the preparations to make the MingDe Forum 2026 Annual Meeting a success.

MingDe Lecture No. 3

The MingDe Lecture is a sub-brand of the MingDe Forum. It brings together distinguished figures from government, business and academia around the world for high-level lectures on international relations, the economy and finance, technological innovation, public governance, and the humanities and society.

Since 2025, Professor Wu Xiaoqiu and Professor Zhai Dongsheng have each given a MingDe Lecture. For this year’s meeting we have invited Professor Liu Shouying to speak.

At the New York main venue we continue our tradition — from the global situation, the economy and the financial markets to entrepreneurship and investment — of taking stock of how the world is changing. Three leading figures from different fields will give keynotes from three different angles.

Biography
Dr. Jeannette M. Wing is Executive Vice President for Research at Columbia University, overseeing the University’s research enterprise at all locations. She joined Columbia in 2017 as the Avanessians Director of the Data Science Institute and Professor of Computer Science. Previously, she served as Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Research, held faculty and department leadership positions at Carnegie Mellon University, and was Assistant Director for Computer and Information Science and Engineering at the National Science Foundation. Dr. Wing is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of several distinguished organizations, including the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Association for Computing Machinery, and the IEEE. She received her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in computer science, all from MIT.

The 2026 Theme

A New Order of Intelligence

新智序：世界、资本与人文

The world is changing.

Artificial intelligence is entering the economy, industry, finance and everyday life at a speed never seen before. From large models to industrial applications, from technological competition to the capital markets, from venture investment to global supply chains, AI is becoming one of the defining variables of our time.

But the world has never changed through technology alone.

How global power is being rearranged, how economic cycles unfold, how capital discovers new value, how companies find new growth, and how people hold on to their own judgment and direction in an ever-faster world — these remain the questions of our era.

AI is changing the world, but the world is not only AI.

The MingDe Forum 2026 Annual Meeting takes “A New Order of Intelligence” (新智序) as its theme. In the Chinese title, 智 (zhi) is intelligence — artificial intelligence, but also human wisdom and judgment; 序 (xu) is order — the world order, but also the logic by which the economy, capital, industry and the relationships between people work. Standing at the moment when intelligence is accelerating into our lives, we want to look afresh at the questions that have always deserved discussion.

The world is being reshaped. Capital is being reconfigured. And people are coming to understand themselves anew.

Reshaping, reconfiguring, reflecting.

This time we set out from New York, travel on to Vancouver, and end in Montreal. Three cities, three perspectives; three venues, one question of our era.

The further technology advances, the more people need to rethink their own place.
As AI takes on more and more of the work that used to belong to people, and algorithms begin to take part in judgment, creation and decision-making, how do we understand human value, creativity and responsibility? In a world that is ever smarter and ever faster, do we still need to slow down? As more and more questions can be handed to machines, which questions must we keep answering ourselves?
The MingDe Culture Forum continues its focus on culture, the humanities and society, extending the conversation from technology itself to how people live, learn, create and think.
