RUCNAAA Successfully Hosts RMB Internationalization Forum

At a time when the internationalization of the renminbi (RMB) was accelerating, RMB-related policies were attracting global attention, and financial communities worldwide were closely watching the currency’s future development, the forum brought together leading experts and practitioners to discuss the prospects and implications of RMB internationalization.

The event was jointly supported by the Global Business Center of The Pennsylvania State University, the Zhejiang University EMBA Center, and the Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum (OMFIF) of the United Kingdom.

Approximately 200 guests from the organizing institutions, partner organizations, global financial institutions, the RUC North America Alumni Association, and major international media outlets attended the forum.

Xiao Yuqiang, Chairman of the U.S. Management Committee and General Manager of the New York Branch of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), delivered a keynote speech entitled “RMB Internationalization and China-U.S. Economic and Trade Cooperation.”

Xiang Songzuo, Chief Economist of the Agricultural Bank of China and Deputy Director of the International Monetary Institute, presented and interpreted the findings of the RMB Internationalization Report 2015.

Anoop Singh, Professor at Georgetown University and former senior official at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), also delivered remarks on the topic of RMB internationalization.

The forum was chaired by Ben Shenglin, Executive Director of the International Monetary Institute of Renmin University of China.

Two panel discussions were moderated respectively by Susan Schadler, former Deputy Director of the IMF’s Asia and Pacific Department, and Zhang Zhixiang, former Executive Director for China at the IMF and former Director-General of the International Department of the People’s Bank of China.

Distinguished RUC alumni, including Li Shanquan, Guan Ning, Micheal Ning, and Zhai Dongsheng, participated in the discussions alongside representatives from government, industry, and academia around the world, including Alejandro Perez, William Purpura, Dominick Salvatore, Warren Coats, Thomas Costerg, Zach Pandl, Fu Hongyu, and Lin Ning.

The event received extensive media coverage. Major media organizations, including China Central Television (CCTV), Phoenix Television, Dragon TV, Xinhua News Agency, People’s Daily, Economic Daily, Caixin, and Bloomberg News, sent reporting teams to cover the forum.

This forum was the largest, highest-profile, and most internationally influential event organized by the RUC North America Alumni Association since its founding.
