Entrepreneurship can be exhilarating. Yet for entrepreneurs, the journey often means shouldering responsibility for an entire team, weathering countless dark nights when failure seems imminent, and still maintaining the clarity, agility, and insight needed to navigate uncertainty—with courage, conviction, and a relentless drive toward the dawn.
For women entrepreneurs, this journey often comes with additional challenges. Alongside the pressures of marriage and childbearing, they must also confront long-standing biases in the business world and work to secure equal access to financing, talent, sales opportunities, and other critical resources.
Yet women entrepreneurs are steadily breaking through these barriers. According to Mastercard’s 2021 Women Entrepreneurs Report, there were approximately 143 million women entrepreneurs worldwide as of 2020—meaning that nearly one in every three entrepreneurs was a woman. The power of women is increasingly making its mark in the entrepreneurial world.
So, what are the stories behind the women entrepreneurs around us?
As International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month approach, the RUC North America Alumni Association invited three women entrepreneurs who are building businesses in China at different stages of their careers to share their unique entrepreneurial journeys. Through their stories, we hope to showcase the remarkable spirit of women entrepreneurs and offer valuable insights and lessons for those considering entrepreneurship themselves.
