Mingde Lecture (2): Professor Di Dongsheng

On the evening of June 29, 2026 (Beijing time: the morning of June 30), the RUC North America Alumni Association hosted Mingde Lecture 2 via Zoom Webinar, featuring renowned international relations scholar Professor Di Dongsheng. The lecture focused on “Trump’s Visit to China and a New Positioning for China-U.S. Relations.”

Professor Di Dongsheng is Dean of the Institute for Area and Country Studies at Renmin University of China and Professor and Associate Dean of the School of International Studies at Renmin University of China. He also serves as Executive Dean of the China-Europe Joint Research Institute under China’s Ministry of Education and Vice President of the Association for Emerging Economy Studies. His research focuses on U.S. political economy, China’s external economic relations, and the political economy of finance, monetary affairs, and exchange rates.

Professor Di has studied and taught at Renmin University of China since 1994. During this time, he has served as a visiting scholar or adjunct lecturer at institutions including Sciences Po in Paris, the Université libre de Bruxelles, Boston University Brussels, and Georgetown University.

Since 1999, Professor Di has published dozens of academic papers in both Chinese and English in China, Europe, Russia, Latin America, and East Asia. His recent books include The StruggleParallelism and CompetitionMoney, Power, and People: A People-Centered Political Economy of Finance, Money, and Exchange RatesCurrencies of Great PowersWhy China Has a Future: External Economic Relations and Its Strategic Potential, and Sanctions and Economic Warfare.

About the Mingde Lecture

“The way of the Great Learning lies in manifesting luminous virtue, renewing the people, and resting in the highest excellence.”

Guided by the principles of Mingde and embracing a broad and open outlook, Mingde Forum was established by the RUC North America Alumni Association as a platform that balances openness and internationalism with academic rigor and practical relevance. It was launched in New York in October 2015 and officially named Mingde Forum in November 2016. In 2023, the Mingde Culture Forum was established in Montreal, Canada. In 2025, Mingde Forum was officially registered as a trademark in the United States.

Mingde Lecture is a sub-brand of Mingde Forum, dedicated to bringing together distinguished figures from government, business, and academia around the world for high-level lectures and discussions on major issues in international relations, economics and finance, technological innovation, public governance, and the humanities and social sciences.

Together, the three components form an integrated series of Mingde Forum programs: Mingde Forum focuses on the annual flagship summit; Mingde Culture Forum focuses on international cultural exchange held on a biennial basis; and Mingde Lecture focuses on ongoing, high-level sharing of ideas and insights.

Through debate, dialogue, discussion, and analysis, we seek to pursue knowledge and understanding. By learning from one another and drawing on each other’s strengths, we strive to cultivate ourselves and contribute to our communities.
