On May 21, Long Shengde, a 1951-entry alumnus of the Department of Trade at Renmin University of China (RUC) who now lives in the United States, visited his alma mater accompanied by the RUC North America Alumni Association (RUC-NAAA). Long was accompanied by his wife, Quan Ruxiang. The delegation was warmly received by Zhang Donggang, Secretary of the RUC Party Committee, and other university leaders.
Zhang Donggang welcomed Long Shengde and his wife and introduced the university's recent achievements in areas including academic discipline development, talent cultivation, and campus construction.
Zhang noted that RUC is currently advancing its oral history research in an orderly manner and sincerely invited Long to provide additional valuable historical materials from the university's early years, contributing to RUC's efforts to educate and inspire through its history and culture.
Zhang also shared with Long information about RUC's work supporting Lanping County in Yunnan Province in its poverty alleviation efforts. He said that the university would continue to explore feasible ways to support the development of education in Yunnan and contribute more of RUC's expertise and resources to the province.
Long Shengde recalled his years of study at RUC and expressed his expectations for the university's future development. He sincerely wished his alma mater continued success in its educational mission, the cultivation of more outstanding talent, and greater contributions to social progress and national development through knowledge and expertise.
Long said that he has always followed China's development closely and feels proud of the country's achievements. At the same time, he has remained deeply concerned about the development of his hometown in Yunnan and hopes to contribute through his own efforts to making his hometown a better and more prosperous place.
Following the meeting, Long Shengde and his wife, accompanied by Zhang Jianming, former Executive Deputy Secretary of the RUC Party Committee and Vice President of the RUC Alumni Association, visited the “The Beauty of Traditional Chinese Family Letters” exhibition at the RUC Museum and toured RUC's former campus.
Yafeng Wu, President of RUC-NAAA, and Liu Quan, a member of the RUC-NAAA Board, accompanied Long Shengde on his return visit to the university. Vice President Zheng Xinye and university officials including Guo Haiying, Zhao Xiao, and Liu Yulin also attended the meeting.
Long Shengde graduated from the Department of Trade at Renmin University of China in 1954. He later worked at the Institute of Ethnic Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and is both a participant in and witness to academic exchanges between China and the United States.
